No Louis Vuitton would be needed for Deion Sanders if his next stop were at Alabama.
The Colorado Buffaloes’ head coach odds to replace Nick Saban at Alabama skyrocketed Wednesday. Chris Low with ESPN broke the story Wednesday afternoon that Saban is retiring following the 2023 season that ended in a heartbreaking loss to the eventual national title-winning Michigan Wolverines.
Rumors about Saban’s potential retirement were floating around the college football world last week. Several prominent names in football were added to a list of top odds to be Alabama’s head coach next season by Bookies.com.
Sanders’ name was one of them.
As of Jan. 5, Sanders was eighth on the list. His odds of being Alabama’s head coach in 2024 were at +10000, with a one percent chance of probability. Per The Spun, Dan Lanning had the best odds to replace Saban:
“Bookies.com gives Lanning +800 odds with an 11.1-percent implied probability of him being the Alabama head coach next season. Rounding out the top five are New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and Florida State head coach Mike Norvell.
Lanning is widely considered one of the best young head coaches in the country. He also has previous ties to Alabama, having coached for them as a graduate assistant in 2015.”

Sanders acknowledged Saban’s retirement Wednesday night by Tweeting that Saban was the greatest of all time:
WOW! College Football just lost the GOAT to retirement. WOW! I knew it would happen 1 day soon but not this soon. The game has change so much that it chased the GOAT away. College football let’s hold up our mirrors and say HONESTLY what u see.

Now we’ll see if Sanders wants to usurp Saban’s legacy by taking over the Alabama coaching job. After all, Sanders said he was the “best” coach in college football last year.
