The New York Jets learned their lesson the hard way last season when they bet all their chips on Aaron Rodgers without having any real plan if their new franchise QB got hurt.
Ahead of last season, the Jets were viewed as legitimate Super Bowl contenders — and now with a healthy Rodgers and capable backup in case the worst case scenario happened again — New York is heading into 2024 with aspirations to bring home a Lombardi Trophy.
On paper, it’s hard to argue the Jets roster isn’t capable of contending with anyone in the NFL. Offensively, they have talent across the board — from running back Breece Hall — who has become one of the most dynamic ball-carriers in the league, to a wide receiving corps loaded with talent. Garrett Wilson is solidified himself as the New York Jets No. 1 wideout and has proven himself as one of the top young wideouts in the league

The Jets made a few aggressive moves in free agency — most notably adding Mike Williams — who has thrived as a big-bodied target for the Chargers since he was drafted out of Clemson.
New York added another target for Rodgers in the NFL Draft, adding Western Kentucky wideout Malachi Corley in the third round. The dynamic speed threat was tabbed as Aaron Rodgers’ “favorite wide receiver” of the draft class.
Allen Lazard — a familiar target from Rodgers in Green Bay — is still on the roster but has struggled during OTAs according to reports. Some insiders believe Lazard has a chance of missing the 53-man roster if he doesn’t step his game up during training camp.
The New York Jets also made significant moves to protect their star franchise QB, adding significant talent across the offensive line. They signed former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl tackle Tyron Smith and added Morgan Moses from the Ravens who is a top-tier right tackle. They also drafted one of the best tackles of the 2024 class, selecting Penn State tackle Olu Fashanu with the No. 11 overall pick in the first round.
Defensively, the Jets are loaded just like they were heading into last season. They closed out last season with the No. 3 defense in the NFL, allowing less than 300 yards per game. They added a few significant role players, adding DT Javon Kinlaw and safety Chuck Clark.
When it’s all said and done, the Jets are going to have to get past the Chiefs in the AFC just like any other squad hoping to make a run at the Super Bowl. If Rodgers can stay healthy and the defense performs like it did last season, they have a solid chance of pulling it off.
New York Jets Acquire 49ers Star WR Deebo Samuel In Blockbuster Trade Proposal

While Rodgers currently has a nice arsenal of weapons on offense, the Jets could add another major piece that would fill a role they don’t currently have on the roster.
During his appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show”, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer brought up the possibility of Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets offering the 49ers a first-round pick for Deebo Samuel, a jack-of-all trades WR who can lineup in multiple positions and has proven himself as a one-of-a-kind offensive weapon.
“If the New York Jets were to offer a first-round pick for Deebo, who obviously knows Robert Saleh…that is the Jets going all in on it…
And now you have (Brandon) Aiyuk as a true No. 1. And oh, by the way, you gotta factor George Kittle into this equation. I know he’s gotten older, but he’s still a really good player…I think that there is a scenario where somebody could pry Deebo Samuel from the 9ers.”
As Breer pointed out, Deebo Samuel has familiarity with Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who was employed as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator during the star wideout’s first two NFL seasons.
Last season, Samuel caught 60 passes for 892 yards and seven touchdowns to go along with 225 rushing yards and five rushing scores. He has posted over 1,000 yards of offense in two of the last three seasons, including a career-high 1,770 in 2021.
The New York Jets are all-in with Rodgers, who’s about to enter his age-41 season. They signed ex-Los Angeles Charger Mike Williams to bolster their offense and brought in veterans Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses and John Simpson to bolster the offensive line.
There’s already a strong set of playmakers at Rodgers’ disposal in Williams, Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard. But adding a do-it-all playmaker like Samuel could take this offense to a whole new level and give the Jets a legitimate chance of winning a Super Bowl in 2024.
