Dallas Cowboys fans were given a proper scare on Sunday as star RG Zack Martin exited in the first quarter of what turned out to be a 31-10 blowout loss against the Buffalo Bills. The six-time All-Pro guard was unable to return to the field as he watched his team suffer defeat at the hands of Josh Allen and Co.
Dallas Cowboys’ Zack Martin Speaks Out on Injury
The good news for Dallas supporters is that Martin appears to have dodged a bullet here. It wasn’t a pretty sight seeing the 33-year-old watching from the bench with his left quadriceps iced up. However, it doesn’t sound like a major injury for Martin.
Speaking to reporters after the loss, the eight-time Pro Bowler said that he suffered what he considers a “fluke” injury:
“I got hit. We went to the tent, and it just didn’t fire up for me,” Martin said (h/t Charean Williams of PFT). “Yeah, kind of a fluke thing I guess.”
Gregory Rousseau’s helmet made contact with Martin’s quad, which at that time, the latter believed could have been a knee injury. That would have been a far worse scenario.
When asked about his status for Dallas’ next game, Martin provided an optimistic response:
“I’m hoping this week, treat it and get it ready to go on Sunday. I feel good about that,” Martin said, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com.
The Cowboys return to action on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins and they will obviously want to bounce back from their Week 15 loss to Buffalo. At this point, however, Martin’s status for that upcoming showdown remains up in the air.
