More than a few folks out there would agree that the Dallas Cowboys turned in the most impressive performance in the entire NFL in Week 1. Their defense, in particular, was in a class of its own as Dallas destroyed the New York Giants on their own home turf, 40-0.
The Cowboys wanted to send a message to the rest of the league, and they did just that in their opening-day demolition job of a hapless Giants side.
DeMarcus Lawrence Reacts to Dallas Cowboys’ Blowout Win Vs. Giants
Dallas defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence had his fingerprints all over this win. The three-time Pro Bowler recorded his first half sack of the season on Sunday as he took part in the Cowboys’ defense totally shellacking Daniel Jones and the rest of New York’s offense.
After the game, Lawrence delivered a bold warning to the rest of the league after Dallas’ highly impressive showing in Week 1:
“I definitely feel like we put the league on notice,” Lawrence said, via Nick Harris of the team website. “We’re for real, we’re coming.”
Cowboys star LB Micah Parsons declared after their victory that he believes Dallas has the best defense in the NFL. Lawrence echoed his teammates’ sentiments:
“That’s our dreams, our hopes,” he said. “That’s what we’re shooting for. We’re definitely not gonna get a big head after one game. We’re gonna make sure we get back in, clean up our mistakes and get better after this.”
Lawrence gave a lot of credit to Dallas defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who obviously played a significant role in the Cowboys’ massive win against New York:
“Shoutout to DQ,” he said. “Dan’s doing a great job of leading us and putting us in a position to make plays. He’s our fearless leader and we respect him.”
It’s going to be Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets up next for Lawrence and the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, and if their performance against the Giants is any indication of how they are going to come out against the Jets, then A-Rod and Co. are going to have a lot of problems.
“If y’all feel like a statement was made, go ahead and put that on the front page with big bold letters,” he said.
