It’s not a good day to be a Dallas Cowboys fan right now. This is after news broke on Thursday that Trevon Diggs has been diagnosed with a torn ACL. This is simply the worst-case scenario for the Cowboys who will now be without their star cornerback for the rest of the season.
Dallas Cowboys’ Worst Nightmare Realized
What’s even more devastating here is that Diggs did not even injure his knee during a game. The 25-year-old, who incidentally just celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, suffered the injury during Thursday’s practice.
The Cowboys confirmed the news via an official statement:
“Cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a left knee injury during today’s practice,” the team said in a statement (h/t Charean Williams of PFT). “A subsequent MRI was performed that confirmed a torn ACL. A timetable for Diggs’ return to play has not been established, but he is currently projected to miss the remainder of the current season.”
Dallas Cowboys Fans Heartbroken
This is an undeniably massive blow to Dallas’ campaign, and they will now need to navigate the rest of the season without one of the most important players on their squad.
Unsurprisingly, Cowboys fans could not help but express their agony on social media:

Some fans were able to see the silver lining amid this catastrophe. At this point, there’s nothing more they can do but hope and pray for a speedy recovery for Diggs.
Hard to find a positive from the Trevon Diggs situation but if there were one, it would be that his ACL injury happened in September instead of December or January. If all things go smoothly, which they usually do with Britt Brown (director of rehab), Diggs should be ready to go…

We lost Trevon Diggs but at least we still have a good secondary group pic.twitter.com/CDDE0zwPuo

In his first three seasons in the NFL, Diggs has missed just five games. He is now set to miss the rest of the season after just two games played this term.
Unfortunately, Dallas has no other choice but to move on from this tragedy as fast as they can. They will need to dust themselves off quickly as their Week 3 matchup against a winless Arizona Cardinals side looms. The Cowboys are one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the league, and they will now look to make it 3-0 on Sunday against Kyler Murray and Co.
Dallas will now have to turn to the likes of Stephon Gilmore, DaRon Bland, Noah Igbinboghene, and Jourdan Lewis with Diggs done for the year.
