The Dallas Cowboys will be looking for many upgrades prior to the 2024 season.
In case you somehow missed it, the Dallas Cowboys promising 2023 season came to a screeching halt, this past weekend. Jerry Jones’ club was outclassed by head coach Mike McCarthy’s former team, the Green Bay Packers, 48-32 in the Wild Card round, this past Sunday afternoon in ‘Jerry World.’
With the impending future of Quarterback, Dak Prescott being the lead issue to handle this off-season, the latest rumors swirling is that Prescott (or whoever will be manning center) in Dallas will be acquiring some help in the backfield.
Predicted by ESPN’s Aaron Schatz, the Cowboys will be moving on from Tony Pollard (who had a disappointing season), who tried to fill the massive shoes of now New England Patriots tailback, Ezekiel Elliott.
Schatz believes the ultimate successor to ‘Zeke’ will be Michigan Wolverines’ record-breaking running back, Blake Corum, who’ll be one of the top tailbacks available in this coming April’s NFL Draft.
“The Cowboys will allow running back Tony Pollard to leave in free agency and then trade up to the top of the third round to take a new starting running back, perhaps TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State) or Blake Corum (Michigan),” Schatz wrote in a January 14, 2024 story titled, “2024 NFL offseason: Key free agents, draft notes, predictions.” “There aren’t really any running backs projected to go in this year’s first two rounds, but the Cowboys will want to move up to make sure they get the guy they want.”
Dallas Cowboys’ Roller Coaster 2024
All was well in ‘Jerry World’ as the Dallas Cowboys began their season with a 7-2 record, which included a five-game winning streak over the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, and New York Giants. Despite a few losses to the Eagles, 49ers, and a shocking one in Arizona against the lowly Kyler Murray-less Cardinals, the Cowboys ended the regular season with back-to-back wins over the Jets and Giants to win the NFC East.
Unfortunately for the Dallas Cowboys, history repeated itself when Jerry Jones’ club was throttled by Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card in their own place, 48-32. After such an embarrassing loss to his old team, it was seemingly a foregone conclusion that Mike McCarthy would be the fall guy for the Cowboys’ short-coming…especially with names like Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh on the market.
However, Jerry Jones has other plans as he will keep McCarthy manning the sidelines in 2024, which will certainly be met with mixed reactions by Cowboys fans and foes alike.
