Dallas Cowboys Special Teams Coordinator Has Wild Comment About Finding A Kicker

Have you ever wanted to play for the Dallas Cowboys? Congratulations! Now is your chance! The Cowboys’ special teams coordinator John Fassel said over the weekend that they are considering “anybody else on earth” for the kicker position.

Tristan Vizcaino is on the roster but he only has 12 career field goal attempts. The Cowboys had Brett Maher last season but he struggled down the stretch. Fassel said that he is leaving no stone unturned and looking at the XFL and USFL for options as well. He named dropped veterans like Mason Crosby, Robbie Gould, and Ryan Succop as options as well. Dallas is primed for a deep playoff run, especially in a weak NFC conference. However, while the position doesn’t see the field often, it is a position that is vital to the success of a team.

Critical To Figure This Out

Ask any Vikings or Chargers fan about the importance of having consistency on special teams. The Cowboys themselves have been beaten on last-second kicks many times in the past decade. Missed field goals and extra points can be the difference in a game. Having a reliable kicker is vital in the modern NFL. The Cowboys already have a lot of questions going into the season and this is one that needs to be solved soon.

There is still plenty of time in the offseason for the Cowboys to figure out the kicker position. Ultimately, the team could try out a bunch of players and ride the hot player into the season. Kicking is often about confidence and sometimes a player has it and sometimes he doesn’t. This will be a roster spot to keep an eye on as the Cowboys go into the 2023 season.
