With Saquon Barkley unlikely to get the franchise tag for the second straight year, Robert Griffin III has the perfect destination in mind for him: the Dallas Cowboys.
The former Pro Bowler expressed his belief that the Cowboys and Barkley are a good match, especially since Dallas could really use help in the running game following Tony Pollard’s dip during the 2023 season.
Saquon Barkley To Dallas Cowboys?
According to the latest updates, the New York Giants are going to have a conversation with Barkley soon to explore a potential deal, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Nonetheless, it’s unlikely that the team use the franchise tag worth $12.1 million on him.
With the possibility of Barkley entering free agency high, Griffin took to X (formerly Twitter) to urge the Cowboys to make a run for the superstar running back.
“The Dallas Cowboys should raid their rival’s closet and sign Saquon Barkley. Saquads is a 3 down back, who brings both flash and SUBSTANCE. The Quad God is still one of the most dynamic players in the NFL with the ball in his hands in the open field. Time for these stars to unite,” Griffin shared.
Barkley finished the 2023 season with 962 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground in 247 rushing attempts. He also made 41 receptions for 280 yards and four touchdowns.
It will definitely be interesting to see if the Cowboys will be interested in Barkley. With Tony Pollard not expected to be franchise-tagged as well, there might be a path for the Giants running back to the Big D.
The question, however, is if Jerry Jones would be willing to pay Barkley the kind of money he’s looking for.
Saquon Barkley’s Potential Destinations, Contract; Dallas Cowboys Not a Favorite
If Saquon Barkley ends up entering free agency, the Houston Texans are favored to sign him at +400, per BetOnline. The Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens round out the top five potential landing spots for him.
Barkley is expected to command between $10 million to $11 million per year in free agency. As mentioned, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys might not be too happy to pay him that kind of money after splurging and spending $10 million on Tony Pollard through the franchise tag last season.
For now, it remains to be seen what will happen with Barkley and the Giants. Should the two sides fail to reach a deal, there will definitely be a number of suitors who are going to pursue the 27-year-old.
