Dallas Cowboys: Veteran Running Back Expected to Get Cut Amid Ezekiel Elliott’s Return

After a one-year hiatus away from the team, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to bring back three-time Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott ahead of the new season. The 28-year-old is a well-loved figure among the fans, which is why it comes as no surprise that the supporters have been rejoicing upon the return of their prodigal son.

Elliott’s comeback, however, also means that someone will have to go.

Dallas Cowboys News: Royce Freeman NOT Expected to Make Final Roster

Apart from Elliott, the Cowboys also brought in veteran RB Royce Freeman this summer after the latter spent last season with the Los Angeles Rams. At this point, Zeke is fully expected to take the role of Dallas’ lead back, with the likes of Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn backing him up.

According to LP Cruz of Blogging the Boys, this will inevitably leave Freeman on the outside looking in:

Failing to make the cut are veteran runners Royce Freeman and Malik Davis. Their goodbye at the end of the summer shouldn’t be seen as permanent, as either could be brought back at some point during the regular season,” Cruz wrote.

Cruz did note that it’s very much possible that Freeman (along with Malik Davis) could be brought back at some point in the season. Obviously, though, nothing is guaranteed.

Nevertheless, based on how things have been playing out thus far, it does seem like Freeman won’t be able to make the final roster cut ahead of Week 1.

The cowboys always contract extra players like running backs & receiver’s only to cut them before the season. Freeman is a decent back. He is the biggest back Dallas has, also the fastest, the boys made a big mistake not drafting a back this year,as they really had a shot at 3 awesome guys. But that’s what they do. I think Tolbert is gone and flournoy will take his spot. Dallas won’t pay Prescott, or or anyone else before the season starts. They will have to trade lamb, Prescott, and pay the stud D.E., Jerry and Stephen are terrible at the cap. We won’t do much this year, probably win 5-7 games this year, bum’s me out bad.

Cowboys can score and score but if your defense gives up a touch down after every score you make, then defense need to get better Mr. Jones do you think? Dallas brain trust need to get better, if not hire some body

I really think Jerry jones should go ahead and pay lamb what he is asking for .cause he is good for what he do on the team .he is a team player and he works hard for his teammates.so don’t trad him, just pay the man
