Much like the rest of the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys are still expected to make a few moves before the new season begins. This squad is entering another season with massive expectations and for its part, the front office is doing whatever it can to ensure that they are able to field the best possible squad for 2024.
At this point, it would not be a surprise if the Cowboys added some depth in certain areas they feel they are still lacking. As such, this could also mean that one or two guys could see themselves pushed out of the squad.
Dallas Cowboys Urged to Consider Peyton Hendershot Trade
LP Cruz of Blogging the Boys believes that one player the Cowboys should consider offloading before the new season begins is tight end Peyton Hendershot.
The former Indiana standout hasn’t exactly made a tremendous impact on the squad since he joined them two years ago. The fact that Hendershot is also coming off an injury-laden campaign in 2023 could also make it difficult for him to fight for his place in Dallas’ depth chart, which includes Jake Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker, and Josh Stephens, to name a few.
“Of all the tight ends save Stephens, Hendershot’s blocking could be the most suspect. Hendershot must also return from a year plagued by injuries and start from scratch to work up the depth chart. What works in Hendershots’ favor is he is an athletic, receiving tight end with a pass-catching upside, making him an appealing option to potential suitors. The downside is that he’d compete with John Stephens, who boasts a similar athletic profile. Trading Hendershot wouldn’t be to acquire draft capital but to acquire a prospect to fill a need. For example, Dallas could trade Hendershot for a linebacker or reserve offensive linemen,” Cruz wrote.
The argument from Cruz here is that Hendershot could be surplus to requirements for the Cowboys. At the same time, Dallas also has a few more needs to fill — something that they could potentially address by swapping Hendershot with a player that will bring more value to their team.
As Cruz noted above, Hendershot still has a lot of potential, and a few teams out there could be willing to take a risk on the 25-year-old.
