Dallas Cowboys Send CeeDee Lamb to the Green Bay Packers for 2 Young Wide Receivers in Insane Trade Prediction

The Dallas Cowboys are entering what may very well be a make-or-break year for the franchise. Head coach Mike McCarthy, following a first-round loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Playoffs, has a 1-3 postseason record since being hired. As a result, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones declined to offer him a contract extension. As 2024 is the final year of McCarthy’s current deal, it could be his last in Dallas if the team does not meet expectations.

Additionally, the Cowboys are facing tough contract decisions. Three of their star players, quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and linebacker Micah Parsons are all up for significant pay raises and contract extensions. One of those three, Lamb, has been absent from team activities this offseason as he awaits his new deal.

With little ground being made between Lamb and Dallas, there is speculation that the team could trade him yet this offseason.

The Dallas Cowboys Trade CeeDee Lamb to the Green Bay Packers for Christian Watson and Dontayvion Wicks (Proposal)

Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens (34) and safety Anthony Johnson Jr. (36) defend a pass to Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (88) in the end zone during the fourth quarter of their wild card playoff game Sunday, January 14, 2024 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Green Bay defeated Dallas 48-32.

Obviously, if the Cowboys are going to trade Lamb, they need a package in return that will still allow them to compete in 2024. Trading away their best wide receiver would be a huge blow to an offense that also lacks a good run game, so it would make sense if they got at least one promising pass catcher in return.

Paul Silano of Give Me Sport suggests that Dallas could get two promising wide receivers in return if they traded Lamb to the Packers:

“Following a Jordan Love breakout season in 2023, the Green Bay Packers could be a sleeper team to negotiate a trade for Lamb. When you look at the Packers’ WR core, they’re a deep and talented group.

“Christian Watson is your unicorn player with 4.36 speed who can spread the field vertically and horizontally. Romeo Doubs is a bigger body receiver who excels in the red-zone and can win in contested catch opportunities. Jayden Reed is their slot receiver who was a safety net for Love. Then, they had an unexpected surprise second-year receiver in Dontavyion Wicks, who was third in receiving yards on the team last season, and was solid after the catch.

“You’re probably thinking, if the Packers have four talented WRs, why would they be interested in Lamb? Love is 25 years old heading into his second season as the starter, so he’s effectively in his prime. The Packers clearly have four good WRs, but right now, as it appears, they don’t have an alpha receiver on their roster. That is where Lamb could help.”

In this trade, the Cowboys would receive Watson, Wicks, and the Packers’ first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Watson is finally healthy after a couple years of hamstring injuries. Wicks has drawn comparisons to Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams, and could develop into a top-tier wide receiver.

The question is whether or not the Packers would do this deal.

Would the Green Bay Packers Agree to this Ceedee Lamb Trade with the Dallas Cowboys?

As mentioned above, Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks is a player that they are very high on. They have also poured a lot of money into figuring out the cause of Watson’s injuries, and believe they have done so.

All this to say that there is likely no way that Green Bay would ever agree to this deal. They like having their core four young wide receivers, any one of whom can be wide receiver one on any given week.

There is also the financial aspect to consider. Watson is in the third year of his rookie deal and Wicks is entering his second year in the NFL. The Packers simply are not going to trade two extremely affordable wide receivers for the chance to pay another one $30 million a year or more.
