The Dallas Cowboys front office is currently facing a couple of major issues on their roster. Two of their most important players are both looking to sign big-money extensions as both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb expect to get the money they feel they deserve this summer.
The Cowboys have been in this situation many times in the past, and they know what they’re doing. Be that as it may, there’s no denying that they’re playing a dangerous game here.
Dallas Cowboys Urged to Get CeeDee Lamb Deal Done
For his part, Lamb is taking more extreme measures as compared to Prescott. The All-Pro wide receiver did not take part in the team’s recently concluded minicamp, and the holdout is now in danger of extending to training camp.
Matt Hodler of Bleacher Report is now urging the Cowboys to act with more urgency on the CeeDee front, especially after seeing Justin Jefferson reset the wideout market with a staggering four-year, $140 million extension with the Minnesota Vikings.
“Lamb sat out of mandatory minicamp as he’s seeking a new contract, and his price tag likely went up after seeing Justin Jefferson break the bank. Owner Jerry Jones should learn his lesson and work to get a deal done with the wideout before another receiver signs a megadeal, resulting in another mark-up for No. 88,” wrote Holder.
Cowboys Are on the Clock
To a certain extent, the same can be said about Prescott’s situation. It doesn’t sound like the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback is going to hold out from playing for Dallas, but it still applies that the external market is adding more pressure on the Cowboys to settle this contract dispute sooner rather than later:
“Along the same lines as Lamb, Prescott is also looking for a contract extension, and he gained more leverage after Trevor Lawrence signed a new contract. Reportedly, the Dallas Cowboys are prioritizing the quarterback over the receiver right now, but they should do what they can to keep the duo together for the long haul,” Holder surmised.
If the Cowboys don’t act fast enough, it would not be surprising if they end up paying more money than they could have if they had gotten the deals done sooner.
