Many Dallas Cowboys fans understand that while they cannot keep all of their star playmakers in the team, they would have liked it better if the team did more in order to keep them around.
This is the opinion of one team legend after learning that Tony Pollard is leaving the squad to play for the Tennessee Titans in 2024. He thinks that the team could have done more to convince the Cowboys’ leading rusher in 2023 to play more seasons in Arlington.
Dez Bryant calls out Dallas Cowboys for not using Tony Pollard properly
Dez Bryant, a crowd favorite who played most of his professional career with the Dallas Cowboys, didn’t hesitate to take to social media to express his disappointment over the team’s mishandling of Pollard during his time with the team.
He argued that the young man could have produced more if he were properly used by Mike McCarthy, as reported by The Spun’s Matt Hladik:
“Hate to see pollard go because I feel like he was not utilized the correct way,” Bryant wrote. “No, he’s not your every down back but he’s a damn great change of pace back who made big plays. Zeke was let go a year to early now Pollard gone because of bad management. I’m looking forward to seeing what Dallas back field will look like this year.”
In a subsequent tweet, Bryant added that Pollard was “literally a WR in the backfield.” He also expressed concern over a report from NFL Network’s Jane Slater saying that Dallas is not interested in pursuing big-name free agent backs like Derrick Henry and Austin Ekeler.
Tony Pollard was an outstanding rusher for the Dallas Cowboys last season. In his final year with the team, he managed to complete 1005 rushing yards for six TDs and four yards per carry. He also caught for 311 yards.
With reports that they’re not actively pursuing free -agent running backs, it will be interesting to see who will take over Pollard’s responsibilities in the Dallas offense once the 2024 season gets underway.
