Dallas Cowboys CB DaRon Bland has been making headlines all season. While most of America was enjoying a delicious turkey, Bland was setting an NFL record. He became the first player in NFL history to have five interception returns for touchdowns in a dominant 45-10 win over the Washington Commanders.
Bland is having such a historic season for the Dallas Cowboys that he is putting up better numbers than some players who get paid to score touchdowns. Which wide receivers is he outshining? Here are some of the most notable players.
DK Metcalf
Metcalf is arguably one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. He has quickly made a name for himself in Seattle and is noted as one of the biggest scoring threats on a football field. However, his stats this season may surprise you.
Metcalf has just three touchdown receptions this season. He also has 678 receiving yards. It may come as a surprise to most football fans that he is behind Bland in this category.
Jaylen Waddle
Our next wide receiver comes from an offense you would not expect. The Miami Dolphins have certainly gotten attention for their offensive explosiveness. This is so much so that QB Tua Tagovailoa and WR Tyreek Hill are both NFL MVP candidates.
Yet, Waddle has not quite put up those kind of numbers. Like Metcalf, Waddle has just three touchdown receptions. However, he only has 577 receiving yards. This is a wide receiver who has gotten lost in the shuffle of a dominant offense.
Davante Adams
This wide receiver has made headlines due to quarterback controversy this season. Adams has struggled so much that he has asked to be traded from the Las Vegas Raiders and reflected on past quarterbacks who he has played with. His numbers reflect this.
Despite having the second-most targets in the NFL, Adams has just four touchdown receptions this season. He has 741 receiving yards on top of it. Even with rookie QB Aidan O’Connell settling in, Bland is outshining Adams with touchdowns.
DeVonta Smith
Smith is part of the team with the best record in the league right now. Despite the Philadelphia Eagles being 9-1, Smith has not been a huge part of it. He has four touchdown receptions and 632 receiving yards. The Eagles may be the favorites to come out of the NFC but Smith is still behind Bland on the rival Dallas Cowboys in touchdowns.
George Pickens
Finally, we have Pickens. There were high hopes for him this season to develop with QB Kenny Pickett. However, Pickens and the entire Pittsburgh Steelers offense have regressed.
Pickens has just three touchdown receptions. Plus, he has 604 receiving yards. Considering the Steelers have been outgained in all 10 of their games this season, this should not come as a huge surprise.
