CeeDee Lamb broke not just one but two of Michael Irvin’s Dallas Cowboys record in Week 17, but quarterback Dak Prescott knows very well his wideout is far from being done when it comes to setting new feats.
Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb Makes History
Lamb entered the game with 109 receptions and 1424 receiving yards this 2023 season. With that, he was largely expected to surpass Irvin’s reception record in a single season of 111. As for the receiving yards record, it was up in the air if Lamb could record 180 yards to surpass the Cowboys legend’s mark of 1,603 from 1995.
Throughout the night, though, the 24-year-old wide receiver looked motivated not only to win, but also set new records for the Cowboys. The way he tied Irvin’s 111 receptions was pretty memorable, as Lamb delivered a 92-yard touchdown reception.

The play also set him well to surpass Irvin’s reception yards record, which he eventually did as they secured the 20-19 win over the Detroit Lions. When the dust settled after the controversy-ridded game, CeeDee Lamb had 13 receptions for 227 yards and one touchdown.
Dak Prescott Speaks Out on CeeDee Lamb Record
Dak Prescott, for his part, was really proud of what CeeDee Lamb accomplished on the night. The Dallas Cowboys were also celebrating the induction of legendary coach Jimmy Johnson to the team’s Ring of Honor, so what the young wideout accomplished only made the day even more special.
A team legend got to witness a player become a legend of his own for the team. You can’t make that up.
“Remarkable. That’s who CeeDee Lamb is. Tonight, what a great opportunity for him to have the game that he had — understanding that it was coming in this game with records on the line — and I wasn’t aware about them until you guys told me, but I assured you he’d get that. The yards, yards after catch, getting open after the 2.3 [seconds], beating man coverage, getting into the right spots in zones, he can do it all,” Prescott said, per the team’s website.
While talking to reporters postgame, Prescott also expressed his belief that Lamb will only add more to his record with the Cowboys. The Dallas QB even promised to help his receiver accomplish that.
“He’s really just getting going and I can tell you as long as I’m here, he’ll probably stack these records and each and every year, to be honest with you,” Prescott said, via Ed Werder of ESPN.
Lamb can add more to his tally with the Cowboys set to play another game in Week 18 against the Washington Commanders. Lamb is at 122 receptions and 1651 yards after the win over the Detroit Lions, and he is on pace to break through 130 catches and 1700 yards before the regular season ends.
As Prescott said, he’ll be ready to help Lamb achieve that.
