Last season against Minnesota, Cooper Rush dropped 325 yards and 2 TDs for the win in his debut start. After his first career win, the cameras showed his family’s emotional reaction in the stands. The father was basking in what must have been the proudest moment of his life, and he had no intention of hiding it.
What a moment for Cooper Rush last night. That was amazing, and his father's reaction was incredible. #DallasCowboys pic.twitter.com/vEHLMujabr

Quarterback comparison
Cooper Rush is 2-0 this season. By comparison, Dak Prescott is 0-1, having scored just three points with essentially the same personnel. Aside from the opponent, the most noticeable difference would be the lack of playmaker Dalton Schultz who hauled in 7 passes for 62 yards against the stingy Bucs.
Instead of Schultz, Rush got 40-year-old Jason Peters who was playing OG for the first time in his career, and for only 14 plays. Peters first official play as a Cowboy did lead to a 46-yard shot out of a cannon by Pollard. And with that… even-steven.
This was Cowboys LG Jason Peters’ first offensive snap with the franchise. A promising start on 46-yard Tony Pollard carry. https://t.co/hdTH37cfqp pic.twitter.com/5STqVQ15Lo

Ben DiNucci or Cooper Rush?
While Rush hasn’t put up monster numbers, he’s been solid. And we all know the most important numbers are wins. Cooper has made it past many difficulties on his journey to becoming a winning quarterback on the most widely criticized team in the NFL. One of those challenges was the short-lived Ben DiNucci craze. DiNucci put up a hiccup in a game against Philly that he clearly wasn’t ready to play in. That game took the wind out of the fans’ sails.
Another one of those challenges was clearing waivers after the Giants cut him, and somehow making it back to the Cowboys practice squad. It seems the boys in blue and silver were the only team in the NFL who believed in him. That thought process has almost certainly changed.
Not going to take this lying down
Of course, starting QB Dak Prescott will have something to say about giving up his starting job. And certainly, Dak will be given more chances to prove he’s the rightful starter for America’s Team. Backing him is Mike McCarthy, who essentially went to bat for Dak by saying he was the starter.
The last time we checked, wild and woolly Jerry Jones still owns the Dallas Cowboys. We know he likes to make the occasional media splash. After his comments ahead of yesterday’s game, this thing could start to heat up. Every time Rush wins, the gap between the two quarterbacks gets smaller. So, with the right (or wrong, depending on your take) set of circumstance, there is a legitimate chance that the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys gets benched. Still, Dak probably shouldn’t try to rush back before he’s fully ready. He may be closer than he thinks to being dethroned by an undrafted backup.
