Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders recently suggested racism is affecting the football team. Shedeur’s comments mirror the language his father, head coach Deion Sanders used.
Colorado has received much media attention since Sanders took the head coaching job before the 2023 season. The publicity comes with high stakes.
Shedeur Sanders believes he’s judged different

As previously discussed on GH, Shedeur said in an interview with ESPN‘s Robert Griffin III that he is judged differently than other players or quarterbacks. He mentioned that being African American is a “double whammy” as a quarterback:
I just accept the reality with everything and just not just being his son, just being an African American quarterback. That’s a double whammy right there because we both have different flashes of him in how we are as people. I’m more into cars, jewelry, and the flashy stuff…but that persona you may see that’s not really who I am.
I’m just a normal guy. I just like nice things. Some people can take that offensively, though. Then, being an African American quarterback, it’s not many that do that… it’s a strict, narrow line you gotta walk down and be a certain way.
Deion Sanders thinks he’s judges different

Shedeur sounds a lot like his father. During Big 12 Media Days, Deion said he’s judged on a different scale than other coaches are at the college level:
“I’m judged on a different scale. My wins are totally different than your wins. Your wins; you just judging football. That’s why I have to start by giving you education, academics, and so forth. I have to give you those things so you understand there is a greater scope.
I can’t win nine games, and our GPA suffers. Our GPA can’t be high but we lose another eight games. We can’t not go and grab high school players, and you got a bunch of guys out of the portal getting incarcerated. My wins are different. We have to win in every area. That’s the way we are judged, and I’m cool with that.”
Is racism affecting the Colorado Buffaloes?

Race was also brought up in connection to Deion this summer in a report by ESPN‘s Stephen A. Smith. Smith reported the reason why Deion was upset with CBS was because the network took a black reporter off a major story and gave the story to a white reporter. Deion believes in standing up for the black community.
There are some racists out there who don’t like Shedeur, Deion, or Colorado.
However, many people don’t like the way the Sanders family has interacted with the media and marketed their brand. And that has nothing to do with race.
Frankly, it’s not a good look to walk into a locker room and berate players by talking about Louis Vuitton luggage and then go 4-8.
