Racism is allegedly the root of Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders’ ire toward CBS. During a press conference earlier this month, Sanders had a public spat with the media company. Sanders refused to state why he was upset with CBS publicly.
Deion Sanders had beef with CBS
As previously discussed on GH, Sanders refused to answer a question from CBS employee Eric Christensen.
“I’m not doing nothing with CBS,” Sanders said. “Next question. It ain’t got nothing to do with you. It’s above that. It ain’t got nothing to do with you. I got love you. I appreciate you. I respect you. They know what they did…CBS is CBS… What they did was foul.”
There were rumors Sanders was upset with CBS for their preseason ranking of Colorado.
Sanders was upset by alleged racism
Stephen A. Smith with ESPN recently dropped a report on why Sanders was upset. Per Smith, a black reporter had been working on a story for CBS. The reporter was taken off the story before it was published. The story was given to a white reporter.
“A reporter, who happened to be a brother, had a story that they were working on, and the story was about to come out, and when the information was accumulated, the brother was taken off the story, according to people close to Deion Sanders,” Smith said.
“And in return, it was given to somebody who was White. ‘Prime Time’ Deion Sanders had a problem with that. He may not tell you. Most other folks may not know; I’m telling you. According to folks close to Deion Sanders, that’s what happened. That’s precisely what happened.”
Smith said Sanders chose not to answer CBS questions to advocate for people in the black community.
Why not be honest, for the sake of the Colorado Buffaloes?
Smith’s report adds an important layer of perspective to the story. Sanders’ decision to publicly scold CBS and refuse to answer a journalist’s question made him a target by the media.
One has to wonder why Sanders chose not to call out CBS for the alleged racism publicly. People would have been talking about racism in the media instead of the media making Sanders and Colorado a target.
But then again, that kind of decision is on brand for Sanders.
