With the advent of the 12-team College Football Playoff field, the regular season has gained a bump in significance. On Saturday, the No. 8 LSU Tigers visited the No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies, with the two one-loss teams fighting to stay alive for postseason consideration. After falling behind 17-7 at the half, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko opted for a quarterback change, switching from pocket passer Conner Weigman to speedster Marcel Reed. The ladder injected the offense with new life, scampering for 62 yards and three touchdowns in a come-from-behind 38-23 victory.
Texas A&M will now move to 7-1 on the season, riding a seven-game winning streak following an opening season home loss against the top-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. More importantly, A&M will climb the next rendition of the AP Poll, placing them firmly into consideration for the College Football Playoff. Following the win, Elko took a victory lap, praising his program and those who have helped elevate the SEC school.

Texas A&M Aggies head coach Mike Elko was feeling himself after his team’s massive win against the LSU Tigers, with the ranked matchup having College Football Playoff implications. Following a quarterback change in the third quarter, A&M rallied for a 31-6 second-half scoring run behind a revamped defense. Backup quarterback Marcel Reed went 2-of-2 for 70 yards while rushing nine times for 62 yards and three scores. Meanwhile, the defense neutralized LSU passer Garrett Nussmeier, forcing three interceptions and two sacks in the final 30 minutes.
Postgame, Elko called for recruits to realize that Texas A&M is run like a “real program.” The Aggies hired Elko this offseason after the frontman spent the past two seasons with the Duke Blue Devils. He collected a 16-9 record during that stretch. Nevertheless, college football fans supported Elko’s emotional postgame interview following a massive win, extending his team’s winning streak to seven:
