The College Football Playoff is in its tenth season. Before the CFP, college football relied on the BCS; before that, the national champion was determined by votes from sportswriters and coaches. In 2024, the CFP will expand from four to 12 teams, opening the door for multiple one and two-loss teams, adding to the drama of the final three weeks of the regular season. However, some fans are left shaking their heads with the CFP committee and prominent media members openly sharing their “bias” as the season progresses.
On Tuesday, the CFP committee shared their newest top 25 rankings, with three two-loss teams inside the top-12. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels, and Georgia Bulldogs rounded out the top 12, all residing in the Southeastern Conference. For a second consecutive week, football fans angrily flooded social media.
College Football Fans Call Out CFP for “SEC Bias”

According to the popular college football page SEC Exposed:
We’ve been telling you all for well over a decade that SEC bias drove the interests of ESPN and the mainstream sports media that follows them. Now you’re all seeing it. Encourage your friends to follow this page as we EXPOSE @ESPN in the weeks to come. We’re only just starting.
With over ten thousand followers, the account SEC Exposed is the driving force behind a Southeastern Conference bias from the media. Earlier this week, 247Sports college football reporter Brad Crawford compared the resume of undefeated Indiana (Big Ten) to that of the best teams in the Southeastern Conference, bashing them for having no ranked wins. Meanwhile, fans quickly put Crawford on blast, claiming an undefeated record holds more weight than a two-loss team with more impressive victories.
With three weeks left in the regular season, many fans are furious about what many call “SEC bias” from ESPN, CBS, Yahoo, and the CFP committee. Heading into an epic week of FBS football with two top-25 matchups, there is no shortage of fans wanting multiple Southeastern Conference teams to falter:
This is how they’ve gamed the system for decades. They rarely play OOC games away from home either. Also can’t forget the sneaky November cupcake game to boost their collective win totals & rankings!

Has the playoff committee considered that an Indiana team with an entirely different coaching staff and roster lost to an SEC team once? https://t.co/xiqhwmNbHO

Georgia has lost 2 games and Penn State only lost to the #4 team in the nation. The SEC bias really needs to stop https://t.co/PGKn5MUAe5

Hearing a lot of:
“11-1 Indiana is out”
&
“12-0 BYU has to win the Big 12 Championship or they’re out”
&
“Georgia doesn’t have to win this weekend. They should still be in with 3 losses”
What are we doing?!?
