In their second to final college football non-conference matchup of the 2024 season, the Ole Miss Revels visited Winston-Salem, North Carolina, beating the breaks off the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 40-6. Wake Forest, out of the ACC, struggled on both sides of the ball, surrendering a ludicrous 650 yards of offense to Ole Miss while only tallying 311. The Demon Deacons went scoreless in the second half, while quarterback Hank Bachmeier became a victim of four sacks and failed to toss a touchdown.
Last weekend’s college football matchup was the first home-and-home matchup between the two schools. However, following the defeat, Wake Forest canceled next year’s visit to Oxford, Mississippi, paying a $1 million early termination fee. On Wednesday, Wake Forest filled in their open vacancy for the 2025 season with the Oregon State Beavers, with Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin offering a one-emoji response.
College Football Personality and Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin Dumbfounded with Wake Forest’s Latest Move
According to college football insider Brett McMurphy of The Athletic:
Wake Forest & Oregon State add home/home series; 2025 at OSU, return game at Wake in 2029 or earlier. Wake’s 2025 game at Oregon State replaces its canceled game at Ole Miss.
College football star and Ole Miss Rebels leadman Lane Kiffin responded to McMurphy’s post with a facepalm emoji. Kiffin is obviously confused with the situation, with Wake Forest opting to pay a six-figure cancelation fee to escape traveling to Ole Miss next season, only to schedule a squad on the far West Coast. Since Kiffin took over the Rebels in 2017, they are 37-15 and one of college football’s best teams. However, Oregon State is no walk in the park, going 20-9 since 2022.
Next week, the top-ranked Ole Miss Rebels will host the Georgia Southern Eagles at home before starting eight straight SEC tilts. Meanwhile, a 1-2 Wake Forest squad will battle the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns to stop a two-game slide.
