The Ole Miss Rebels are the fifth-ranked team in college football and are off to a 3-0 start in the 2024 season. Head coach Lane Kiffin may have his best team ever with the Rebels and it will be interesting to see what record they will finish with this season.
Ole Miss finished with an 11-2 record last season. Kiffin is in his fifth season with the Ole Miss Rebels. His overall record is 37-15 and 20-13 in SEC Conference play.
ESPN’s Rece Davis Thinks That Ole Miss Rebels Head Coach Lane Kiffin Has a Better Job Where He Is Now
The Florida Gators are most likely going to need a new head football coach after the 2024 season. Florida is off to a 1-2 start and the fanbase has been calling for head coach Billy Napier to be fired. The Gators may move on from him at the end of the season.
One of the names that have been mentioned to replace him at Florida is Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin. ESPN’s Rece Davis said on the College GameDay Podcast:
“I’m going to say this is going to throw some cold water on Florida and probably help Lane. As I said earlier, I’m not the biggest fan about this, but you also can’t ignore the obvious, and you also can’t ignore the obvious and pretend they won’t go after Lane Kiffin. As we sit here right now, Lane Kiffin has a better job right now. He is, at best, making a lateral move, and it’s not because Ole Miss is better than Florida right now. It’s because they can get in on players now. They’re aligned with their NIL, he makes the decisions, he’s in charge, Lane has a better job.”
This is such a hot take from Rece Davis because the Florida Gators program is a bigger brand than the Ole Miss Rebels brand. However, the Rebels are in a much better spot to compete in the SEC Conference for the next five years compared to the Florida Gators.
Life After Jaxson Dart
The Rebels quarterback this season is senior Jaxson Dart. Dart is a candidate to potentially win the Heisman Trophy this season. Ole Miss has a talented offense because of him.
Redshirt freshman Austin Simmons is projected to be the starting quarterback for the Rebels in 2025. Lane Kiffin will need to decide if he is ready to take over Dart or if they will need to hit the transfer portal. Lastly, Kiffin will not be the only coach who is mentioned for the Florida Gators job. Other coaches like Matt Rhule of Nebraska and James Franklin of Penn State will also have their names mentioned for the position as well.
