On the face of it, the New York Giants and the Cleveland Browns do not have a lot in common.
Two Opposite Franchises Linked By Identical Issues

One, a revered, multi Super Bowl winning franchise with household names such as Phil Simms, Eli Manning and Lawrence Taylor; the other, a perennial loser over the past 3+ decades, whose last moments of true greatness came back in the 1960s with former 3 x MVP, now octogenarian, Jim Brown.
However, they are both united by their mutual disappointment in their respective highly paid, and for different reasons, controversial quarterbacks: Deshaun Watson and Daniel Jones
Deshaun Watson And Daniel Jones Both Not Living Up To Expectations

Deshaun Watson was signed to a mega $230 million, fully guaranteed contract back in 2022, after being cleared in criminal court of numerous accusations of sexual misconduct.
Whilst former 1st round pick, Daniel Jones performed well below par in an injury plagued year after receiving an eyebrow raising 4 year, $160 million contract last offseason after leading the New York Giants to their first playoff win since their Super Bowl winning 2011 season.
As a result, former New York Jets GM and current ESPN analyst, Mike Tannenbaum, has proposed a trade between the two franchises stuck in moderate quarterback limbo, despite the late season emergence of 39 year old, Joe Flacco – per ESPN Cleveland.

Would A Watson – Jones Trade Be Beneficial To Both The Cleveland Browns And New York Giants?
![Cleveland Browns Swap Controversial Quarterback, Deshaun Watson, For "Overpaid" $160 Million NFC QB In New Trade Proposal 3 Daniel Jones](https://gridironheroics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/USATSI_21558481-300x200.jpg)
Tannenbaum argues that both sides could be enticed by this swap because the Giants are incentivized to be in ‘win now’ mode, according to the ex GM.
“They gotta win right now, and they’re not gonna get to where they wanna go with Daniel Jones.
It gets more complicated because of what’s happened and the money. But really, if you’re Cleveland, you have created a situation now where Deshaun Watson — if you can turn him into Tee Higgins, Chris Jones, you’re really improving your football team. And because of what you’ve been able to do at the quarterback position [you have] great flexibility.”
For Cleveland, on the other side, the Joe Flacco experience showed that the Browns do not necessarily need their former All-Star type quarterback to succeed, especially throughout his 2 so-far disappointing seasons in Ohio.
Although taking Daniel Jones is probably not an upgrade on Watson, no matter how diminished he may be, he will certainly cost the Browns less than Watson will.
Whereas, for the Giants, bringing in Watson’s lucrative deal at least brings the upside, however remote, that they may at last have a true franchise quarterback, if Watson is able to regain his old, Houston Texans form in Big Blue.

It’s “Phil”….”Phil”Simms played for the Giants
The only way I would trade is if it’ll recoup some of those millions paid to deshaun and give us less years obligated to that contract. Because unless there’s a trade for a QB thats a great shot then draft and groom em in IMO.
Garapolo would be my pick for the browns he could take them to the promise land
For the Browns, whatever happened to pick men of character, not men who are characters.
If Watson was a ” franchise QB”he wouldn’t be on trade market after 2 disappointing seasons because his current team feels they would be better off without him. How does that make him a franchise QB?
This would be an Atrocious move if Cleveland made this trade. DeShaun did good at the end of season, just had the injury. Looking forward to what he brings this coming season
Still laughing. Only thing shorter than Tannenbaum’s tenure with different teams is the longevity of his current senile thinking. Hey Mike……pop warner is calling. And I’m still laughing.
Might be good for both teams
Watson had only played 6 games each season he played with the browns.Let him actually get a whole season in…he’s a really good Qb
The Gianta are too classy an organization to ever have a player like Deshaun Watson. 🚫
Watson will never be the QB he once was. Due to the legal problems and injuries he’s been out of the game too long. Browns should move him out
