Cleveland Browns pass-rusher Myles Garrett is having a monster season. The leader of one of the league’s best defenses, Garrett has been a problem for opposing offenses this year. He now is getting into the world of NBA ownership and has bought a minority stake in the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Cleveland Browns Myles Garrett Buys Stake In Cleveland Cavaliers
Garrett will take on the role of brand ambassador under chairman and governor Dan Gilbert. Garrett had this to say in a statement.
“I have admired the Cavaliers organization’s hard work, tenacity and dedication to the community since my early days in Cleveland. To have the opportunity to join this impressive and purpose-filled franchise, under Dan’s leadership, is truly a dream come true.”
Dan Gilbert also released a statement praising Garrett for his commitment to the city of Cleveland.
“As a leader on and off the field, Myles has become a Cleveland icon and shares in our organization’s commitment to being a transformative force for good across the region. We are honored to welcome this long-time friend of the team as our new partner and investor. Myles’ passion and commitment to the city he loves will allow us to reach new communities and continue to build the successful future of this franchise.”
Ownership Is The Hot Button Topic
A lot of current athletes, especially NFL players are starting to talk about ownership in sports franchises. Caleb Williams made headlines when he said that he wanted a stake in ownership of the team that drafted him. Patrick Mahomes recently said that he wants to be a part of an ownership group once he retires. This is just scratching the surface of the list of athletes who have voiced a desire to own a team. Garrett is making that a reality right now albeit in a different type of role.
It will be interesting to see how the Cleveland Cavaliers deploy Garrett. He clearly is popular in the city of Cleveland and should be very popular for the franchise.
