The Cleveland Browns are operating in quarterback hell, losing their franchise quarterback to a season-ending shoulder injury and now dealing with a concussion to their backup, Dorian Thompson-Robinson. However, the Browns prepared for the worst, signing former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco to the practice squad in mid-November. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Flacco took the first-team reps on Wednesday with Thompson-Robinson shelved.
With Browns’ QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson now in concussion protocol, Joe Flacco has been taking snaps as Cleveland’s QB1 in practice and could start Sunday vs. the Rams.

The Browns lost franchise cornerstone Deshaun Watson for the season after he played just six games. Meanwhile, Cleveland selected Thompson-Robinson in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft, but he is in danger of missing Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Joe Flacco: Super Bowl Winning Quarterback
Joe Flacco, the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, played his first 11 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Flacco started every game from 2008 to 2014, tallying a 72-40 record and throwing 148 touchdowns to 80 interceptions. Flacco is best known for his playoff success, achieving an 88.6 rating in 15 postseason games. The Deleware product owns one of the most incredible postseason runs of all time, throwing for 1,140 yards and 11 touchdowns to no picks during Baltimore’s Super Bowl run back in 2012. He went 22 of 33 for 287 yards and three scores in his team’s Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Flacco last played for the New York Jets, playing with the AFC East club from 2020 to 2022. However, he struggled with consistency, tossing just 14 touchdowns to six picks in 12 games.
Cleveland Browns: QB Depth Chart
Cleveland Browns star Deshaun Watson won’t return this season, and last week’s starter, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, is questionable for Week 14. That leaves the Cleveland Browns with Joe Flacco and P.J. Walker. Flacco has had less than a month to get accustomed to Cleveland, but with him receiving the first-team reps on Wednesday, he should get the starting nod if DTR can’t play. Meanwhile, Walker has thrown for 674 yards and one touchdown with five interceptions in six games this year. He has started two games for the Browns this season, with Cleveland splitting. The former XFL standout has tossed six touchdowns to 16 picks in his four-year NFL career.
