The NFL legal tampering has begun, and tough decisions must be made. The Cleveland Browns made a big one on Tuesday. The Browns signed New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Jameis Winston. The 30-year-old quarterback will be Deshaun Watson’s backup, leaving last year’s backup/starting quarterback, Joe Flacco, to find a new home this season.
Cleveland Browns No Longer Wanted Flacco
Flacco was a fan favorite after coming off his couch late in the season and helping take the Browns to the playoffs after Watson was lost for the season, and many fans aren’t happy that Flacco will not be in the orange and brown this fall.
Flacco would be the starter if something were to happen to Watson. Flacco said if all things were equal, he would love to come back to Cleveland, but if offered a starting job, he would have to look elsewhere, and the Browns made that decision for him by not even wanting to sign him as a backup.
Browns Fans Say Goodbye
Many Browns fans took to social media to thank Flacco for his incredible run in the second half of last year’s season. The 39-year-old quarterback came in and was a true pro. He is such a great guy for the team and city, and many fans will be crushed not to see him in Cleveland this upcoming season.
I’ll always appreciate Joe Flacco for coming to Cleveland and saving the season.
When the year felt lost, Flacco went 4-1 as a starter and led the Browns to the clinch the playoffs on national TV.
It was an incredible ride and an unbelievable story.

Flacco gave Browns fans hope when it felt like the season was over. When Watson went out with a season-ending injury in November, everyone thought it was the end, but Flacco ensured it was just the start.
Even though the Browns didn’t win a playoff game with him, it was great to be back in the playoffs with a beat-down team.
Flacco will always hold a special place in the hearts of Cleveland Browns fans, even though he spent less than two months in the city.
