The Cleveland Browns were able to make the postseason last year despite dealing with a myriad of injuries. However, adding to the running back room was a big need for the team after seeing running back Nick Chubb suffer a gruesome knee injury in the second game of the season. However, they decided to add another running back coming off an injury as the Cleveland Browns have signed former Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines.
The deal is for one year worth up to $3.5 million and has a connection with Browns Special Teams Coordinator Bubba Ventrone so the connection here makes sense. However, Hines is coming off a torn ACL last July in a preseason non-football injury after a jet ski incident. Before coming to the Cleveland Browns, he spent 4.5 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and half the 2022 season with the Buffalo Bills.
This will be interesting to see how he bounces back but with Kareem Hunt not under contract, the Cleveland Browns are essentially moving on from him. Hines likely will be splitting time with Jerome Ford s the backup running back for the Browns in 2024.
How much better does Nyheim Hines make the Cleveland Browns in 2024?
The Cleveland Browns are looking to do better this season with a run-heavy offense and having Deshaun Watson healthy at quarterback. The addition of Nyheim Hines is for depth as he has never had more than 89 rushing attempts in a single season. The Browns are banking on health as they are in a difficult AFC North.
While he is likely going to be a special teams player at a good level but they are going to be needing him to get some carries. If he can remain healthy, this is a low price for good production out of a third-string running back.
