The Christmas Day Week 16 games were an interesting wrinkle in the NFL season as they went head-to-head with the NBA. However, the three games were very interesting as they recorded almost 90 million total viewers throughout the day.
Let’s take a closer look at the viewership for each game and discuss what happened in each game during the Christmas Day slate.
Christmas Day Game #1: Las Vegas Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs (29.17 million)
The first game of the NFL Christmas Day slate was an AFC West matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders were able to pick up a 20-14 road victory in this game and it helps when they are able to score two defensive touchdowns, the fourth in the last two weeks.
Quarterback Aidan O’Connell did not complete in a pass in the last three quarters of the game. This essentially eliminated the Chiefs from contention for the top seed in the AFC.
New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles (29.02 million)
In a battle of the NFC East foes, the Giants and the Eagles were able to have a great game. The Eagles did not look great but were able to snap a three-game losing streak with a 33-25 home win to improve to 11-4. The Giants benched quarterback Tommy DeVito in the game but their offense did not do great.
Philadelphia had a tough time keeping the football as they fumbled four times and lost one of them. This is the first of two games between these teams as they also play in Week 18. The Eagles are currently second in the NFC and have a tied record with both the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions.
The Christmas Day game had a very small dip in viewership throughout the game compared to the first game of the day.
Baltimore Ravens vs. San Francisco 49ers (27.23 million)
The late game saw the top teams in each conference and a potential Super Bowl preview on Christmas Day as the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. The story of this game was the ineffectiveness of Brock Purdy as he threw four interceptions before suffering a stinger and did not return to the game.
This was the lowest Christmas Day rating of the slate. However, this should still be deemed a massive success.
