Per multiple reports, the New England Patriots traded for cornerback J.C. Jackson Wednesday morning, and the move was made due to devastating news for a talented rookie cornerback. Per Albert Breer with Sports Illustrated, the All-Pro cornerback was a healthy scratch for the Chargers in Week 3.
JC Jackson was a healthy scratch in Week 3 for the Chargers, and dressed but didn't play a snap in Week 4, then said he didn't know why he'd been benched. There's also the arrest warrant in Massachusetts.
So that's why he's available. He's got a $12 million base salary.

Jackson will now rejoin the Patriots. He was with the team during the 2018-21 seasons.
The New England Patriots get devastating news on rookie
But his trade is due to an unfortunate circumstance for Christian Gonzalez. Gonzalez suffered a dislocated shoulder in the Patriots blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, Gonzalez is set to have surgery soon to repair a torn labrum.
Gonzalez is expected to miss the rest of this season.
The trade for JC Jackson was necessary because… #Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez, who would have been a candidate for defensive rookie of the year, is likely to miss the rest of the 2023 season with a torn labrum from a dislocated shoulder on Sunday, sources say. Surgery soon. pic.twitter.com/97usulsG6N

That’s a frustrating way for the season to end for the talented rookie. The Patriots selected Gonzalez with the 17th pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. He would have been in the running with Jalen Carter to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
