Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City said it’s treating 12 patients from the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally and 11 of those patients are children.
Children’s Mercy Hospital media relations manager Lisa Augustine said nine of those 12 patients have gunshot wounds, but it is unclear whether all of those gunshot wound patients are children.
Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said earlier that she didn’t think any of the victims who sustained gunshot wounds were children, but she recognized that they didn’t quite have all the information yet. Graves also thanked the present law enforcement for running into danger in a CNN article.
“I’m so proud of them that they ran into danger, getting two people into custody, and at the same time rendering life-sustaining aid to those victims,” Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said.
Victims from the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooting are being treated at other hospitals as well
Truman Medical Center is reportedly treating multiple gunshot victims as well. In an article from local Kansas City news station KSHB, a spokesperson for the hospital explained the situation.
“University Health is a Level 1 Trauma Center. Those victims brought here from the Union Station incident are being treated by the best trauma specialists in the city,” the spokesperson shared. “Our entire staff is aware of the incident and all of our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We will give you a condition report as soon as it is available.”
In total, there has been one death announced and 15 other injuries reported. It is the 48th mass shooting of 2024, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
Police chief Stacey Graves explained that there were more than 800 officers at the Chiefs parade and celebration in an article from NBC News.
“We had over 800 law enforcement officers — Kansas City and other agencies at the location — to keep everyone safe because of bad actors, which were very few,” Graves said. “This tragedy occurred even in the presence of uniformed law enforcement officers who again ran toward them and took them into custody.”
