Robert Griffin III (RG3) has transformed from one of the most polarizing players in recent college football, to the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and now one of the rising stars in broadcasting as an analyst for ESPN.
But after the Buffalo Bills postponed their game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers dude to inclement weather due to below freezing temperatures, snow and other dangerous weather issues for players and fans, Griffin believes tonight’s divisional playoff game between the Chiefs and Dolphins should also be postponed.
The former Baylor and Washington Redskins (now Commanders) star took to X to share his thoughts in a wild rant with over-the-top demands from the NFL for the future.
The Chiefs-Dolphins Game should be postponed for Player and Fan safety. Period. https://t.co/BJhszVbSss pic.twitter.com/qzw0w5AASz

“Alright people if the Steelers Bills game is going to get postponed, then the Chiefs Dolphins game should get postponed too,” RG3 said. New York governor Kathy Hochul said the Bills Steelers game was going to me moved from Sunday to Monday, Why? Because there are projected 50 MPH winds and over seven inches of snow. In other words, that means it’s just not safe for the players, the coaches or the fans going to and from the game, yet alone to play in it. I think that’s the right move.
But when you look at the Chiefs Dolphins game, it’s like ‘nope we’re just going to play that one.’ Well guess what? They have -1 degree weather. It’s supposed to be a wind chill of up to negative 30 degrees. Oh yeah and there’s snow, and there’s winds up to 29 MPH. Your’e trying to tell me that’s safe? No, it’s not safe, not for the players, not for the coaches, not for the fans. It’s not football weather! Guys, football is a brutal sport, it’s a gladiator sport. The toughest people on the face of the planet play football. But the saying ‘we will play them anywhere, any time no matter what the weather’ is just a saying. We use that to pump up our guys, our teammates, because listen if we have to go play in these conditions, we gonna play in them. It is what it is, and we are not going to complain about it But if the NFL is really about player safety? It’s their job to do what’s in the best interest for the players. And guys, the conditions aren’t safe. Winter isn’t coming, It’s here. It’s not soft to say in these conditions the game should be moved. And I do mean both of them.”
This is where RG3 takes it to a whole new level making unrealistic demands from the NFL.
“And from this point forward, there should never be another stadium built without a roof. Make them all a dome, and make them safer for the players without all of these elements.”
RG3 Is Wrong, Chiefs Vs. Dolphins Not The Same As Bills Vs. Steelers
While Griffin is correct tonight’s game in Kansas City is going to be brutally cold, — possibly one of the coldest game in NFL history — the reasoning for postponing the Bills vs. Dolphin was solely based on the conditions making it safe for people to travel to the stadium.
Hochul declared a state of emergency for several counties in Western New York from Saturday afternoon through Monday morning, and per Weather.com, the forecast calls for as much as two to three feet of snow and wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour in certain parts of Western New York from Saturday morning through Monday morning.
According to WIVB’s Adam Gorski, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz noted that the rescheduling had to do with the safety of people traveling to and from the game, saying:
“We want our Bills to win, but we don’t want 60 to 70 thousand people traveling to the football game in what is going to be horrible conditions. [Law enforcement officials] need to be assisting in the middle of a snowstorm, helping those in need, not directing traffic at a football stadium … This is something we all agreed on.”
RG3 makes sense in most of his rant, but the reasoning for the postponement is what matters.
While the Chiefs vs. Dolphins game will be cold, there aren’t any weather conditions making it unsafe to travel to. We have seen dozens of games played in sub-zero, brutally cold conditions for as long as the NFL has existed. It’s something that makes games played this time of year so unique and fun.
The postponement of Buffalo vs. Pittsburgh increased the chatter of something similar happening for Kansas City vs. Miami, but per Louis-Jacques, that won’t be the case.
A source explained why, saying: “There are no public safety travel concerns for getting to the stadium for fans, the clubs, stadium personnel or public authorities.”
That means the Chiefs and Dolphins will indeed face off in what could be one of the coldest playoff games on record.
And RG3 calling for the NFL to only build stadiums with roofs in the future? That’s just crazy and should never be taken seriously.
