The Chicago Bears entered today with Cole Kmet and Stephen Carlson as the only tight ends on the roster, as Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan are unrestricted free agents.
They addressed the position in free agency by signing a veteran tight end.

According to Adam Schefter, Chicago signed Gerald Everett to a 2-year, $12 million contract with a maximum value of $14 million in incentives.
Everett has played in 107 games, starting 46, and has 284 receptions on 424 targets for 2,833 yards and 19 touchdowns in his 7-year career.
He spent the last two seasons in Los Angeles.

He also had six receptions on eight targets for 109 yards and one touchdown in the Wild Card round.
Everett appeared in 15 games and started 12 in 2023 with 51 receptions on 70 targets for 411 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 3.4 receptions per game, 5.9 yards per target, 8.1 yards per reception, and 27.4 yards per game.

Kmet has developed into one of the best tight ends in the league, as he set a career-high in receptions and yards last season with 73 receptions on 90 targets for 719 yards and six touchdowns.
A complement to Kmet is what the tight-end position needs and Everett provides just that.
