The Chicago Bears picking between keeping Justin Fields and moving on with a new QB is a move that only only Bears fans are eager to learn about. Multiple teams throughout the league are interested in acquiring his services, so understanding the team’s stand on his situation will help everyone with their offseason planning.
As teams get a better view of the current state of this year’s prospects, the media wanted to know what the Bears were planning with their QB situation and asked it during the team’s press conference during the draft combine.
The answers the team’s higher-ups gave about the QB situation is giving fans a better idea on what Chicago would do come draft night.
Chicago Bears widely believed to ship off Justin Fields after recent Draft Combine presser
Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflaus were asked plenty of questions about the QB position during the combine, and the statements they gave out had peple talking about whether the team would actually push through the idea of trading their current QB.
Sports Mockery’s Steve Pusch seems to think that the answers they gave during the presser is a clear indication that they’re letting Fields go to draft Caleb Williams first overall.
He spcifically pointed to Eberflaus’ comments as a sign that things are about to change at Ford Field:
Eberflus’ comments seem to be directed at one of Fields’ most significant weaknesses, which has been a desire for a quarterback who plays well in the fourth quarter of games. Chicago’s quarterback has thrown over 16 interceptions in the final quarter of games during his career and has compiled a 55.9 percent completion percentage. Several of Fields’ interceptions thrown in the fourth quarter have been returned for touchdowns, which have directly influenced the outcome of games, including a loss to Detroit in 2022 and a loss to Denver this year.
Fields had an up-and-down 2023, passing for 2562 passing yards and 16 touchdowns while throwing nine picks. While he’s shown moments of brilliance that made some fans fall in love with his play all over again, it may not be enough for the Bears at this point.
Maybe what they all need is a change of scenery, and the Chicago Bears trading Justin Fields away is the answer they all need.
