The Chicago Bears got an unexpected surprise in Jack Sanborn. The undrafted rookie free agent made the week 1 roster and because of his play, was elevated to a starting role once Roquan Smith was traded. Unfortunately, an ankle injury ended his season after 14 games. The Bears got good news heading into 2023 as it looks like Sanborn will be fully healthy for 2023.

Chicago Bears Jack Sanborn Fully Healthy

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Sanborn is expected to be “full speed” when the team gathers for training camp next month. For a team that is trying to make some noise in the NFC North, they need to see some development from players like Sanborn. While the offense was prolific, the defense struggled at times to stop opposing offenses. If Sanborn can make another leap, he could help improve the defense.

    Expectations For The Bears

Obviously, the Bears have to show some type of improvement in 2023. It will be hard to be worse as they finished 2022 with the worst record in the NFL. However, there are some tangible ways that improvement must be seen. Justin Fields has to show he can effectively pass the ball. They went out and got DJ Moore and now matter how prolific the running game is, you have to be able to pass in today’s league. The defense also must show some type of improvement with many of the young pieces needing to make jumps.

The Chicago Bears are counting on Jack Sanborn to be back and become a leader of the defense. It is probably a year too early but if the Bears show massive improvement, it could catapult them into some winning seasons down the road.
