There was a brief moment in time early in the season when it looked like the Chicago Bears would be able to hang with the rest of the NFC North. Indeed, after six weeks, Chicago was 4-2 and every other team in the division was also above .500.
But now, the Bears have lost three games in a row, the most recent an embarrassing 19-3 loss to the lowly New England Patriots on Sunday. It was a game that saw Chicago’s rookie quarterback, the number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams, get sacked nine times. He completed just 16 of his 30 passes for 120 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Clearly, things are not going well in Chicago and, with an incredibly tough schedule ahead of them, there is little optimism that they will be able to turn it around.
Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus Promises Changes

After losing their third consecutive game, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus addressed the media on Monday, telling them that he was aware that things need to be changed.
According to Jason Owens of Yahoo Sports, Eberflus told the media:
“We’re less than 24 hours after the game. We’re in the process of that. … Again, there’s gotta be a change and adjustment to what we’re doing because we obviously lost three in a row. …
“There will be changes, adjustments being made. I’m not gonna disclose those right now. I’m not at that point in the process.”
Because he would not disclose what the changes are right away, many wondered if one of them might be benching Williams in favor of Tyson Bagent.
However, Eberflus has since clarified that Williams is their starting quarterback.
At least, for right now. What is said on Monday does not always remain true come Sunday.
Chicago Bears Fans React to the Possibility of Caleb Williams Getting Benched

Despite the Bears committing to Williams as their starting quarterback, NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN went on the Pat McAfee Show and stated that it is still something that the team could consider:
Adam Schefter mentions that the Bears could consider benching Caleb Williams for Tyson Bagent.
Let me be clear: Caleb has been really bad since the bye week, but if this organization pins the struggles on this kid, I will have a meltdown. pic.twitter.com/6WSJmzUXNU

With rumors of Williams’ possible benching going around, Bears fans took to social media to express what they think of that potential decision:
If the Bears bench Caleb Williams it’ll be the worst organizational decision of all time pic.twitter.com/1BX7thtBtV

The Bears organization beat not blame the QB it’s not just on him https://t.co/oqUyoJGDe6

Matt Eberflus took a good long look in the mirror and said “you’re great buddy. It’s everyone else’s fault not yours. Bench the rookie qb”. https://t.co/Y9nO9ps2Tm

This is just a terrible organization https://t.co/8zKPyP1MDu

As one can see, many fans are more frustrated with the organization than their rookie quarterback.
Indeed, it will be interesting to see what happens in the offseason if and when the Bears decide to move on from Eberflus as head coach. It has been so long since they have had an offensive-minded head coach to help develop their quarterbacks, but now may be the time to get one.
