Caleb Williams stated in an interview with Pete Thamel earlier this week that he wants to be Immortal for the city he ends up in.
A phone conversation took place with top quarterback prospect Caleb Williams and ESPN’s Pete Thamel on the process of the 2024 NFL Draft. He made some statements showing his goals for his NFL career.
“That’s my goal of playing football — it’s not money, it’s not fame … it’s to be immortal. I want to reach that sense of being a legend. Being at the table … and having a rightful seat through hard work and energy and time, I’ve put into this game that we all love.”,
NEWS: Caleb Williams goes in-depth with ESPN on the Bears, Commanders, his draft process and NFL Combine plan. “If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited. If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited.” https://t.co/qYM25nC8yS

Some question marks surround Caleb Williams about his “off-field attitude.” The quote from the article sheds some light on those questions.
Caleb Williams to Chicago
Most of the interview was predicated on whether the Chicago Bears would select him first overall. Many references were made to legends within the city.
“Williams said he has been to Chicago once, has heard good things about the rowdiness of Bears fans, and has gone down video rabbit holes studying Jordan and Payton, two of the city’s most iconic athletes.
‘I’m 22. I didn’t get to see those players,” Williams said. “As the saying goes, the legends live on.'”
He stated, “That’s my goal of playing football — it’s not money, it’s not fame … it’s to be immortal.”
Caleb Williams also described what it would mean to be selected first overall by Chicago. “If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited,” he said. “If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited. Speaking about Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense and defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they’d be excited.”
Caleb was asked about the trade afterward. His answer was transparent and accurate. “Williams pushed back on any notion that he would request a trade or wants to play elsewhere. ‘I’m not pushing any agenda,’ Williams said. “At the end of the day, the Bears have the last say. Regardless of how I feel, I’m not pushing an agenda of, ‘Yeah, I want to go. Or no, I don’t want to go.’ I’m excited for whatever comes.'”
What This Means for Caleb Williams
Many media members have discussed Caleb Williams’s “desire” to play football in the NFL. This interview digs deeper into the understanding of the top quarterback.
Field Yates spoke early in the offseason on the Mina Kimes Show about the word around the league. He asked multiple reputable NFL league officials, and no one was worried about Caleb Williams’s demeanor or ability to play football at the next level.
Some might say that this storyline is overblown. A smokescreen to detour us away from what might be the top quarterback drafted since Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, or Andrew Luck. Hopefully, this one starts to subside in an offseason fueled by Caleb Williams storylines.
