Caleb Williams is under intense scrutiny in the weeks leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft, as are most players projected to go first overall. He has been the number-one pick for most of his career at USC, but the more significant the projection, the more “experts” will try to pick apart the player.

Everyone in the NFL media has done their best to find flaws in the future first-round pick for the 2024 NFL Draft. In his football career, the narrative became, “Can he make the easy throws to keep the offensive drive alive?” In his personal life, it is everything from how his teammates receive him to the color of his cell phone.
Caleb has finally had enough of the outside talk and finally commented in his defense.

Caleb Williams Fights Back
Greg McElroy, former Alabama quarterback and current SEC football media personality, made a statement about the “chip” on the shoulder of quarterbacks that come out in the first round. Typically, quarterbacks who see success early have faced adversity in their college careers.

According to McElroy, this adversity helps them transition to the NFL. McElroy doesn’t think Williams has faced any in his career.
Caleb disagrees.
“Let’s go back to school again cause I’m bored rn..
Adversity: “A state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune.”
Y1. Didn’t start freshman year.
Y2. Popped hammy that will championship game 1st Q. Lost bc of my hammy.
Y3. 7-5 my last year of college ball.”

McElroy’s comments could be viewed as misguided. It seems like he has not learned or known Caleb in the past. McElroy had a successful college career but didn’t amount to much in the pros. McElroy is a good analyst for the SEC Network and ESPN, but this comes from a place of generalization, not from knowledge of the player in question.
First Overall Pick
Caleb going to the Chicago Bears is all but decided. There is no need for Caleb to reply to the seemingly endless hate, but I am sure he feels a need to stand up for himself at a certain point. Reasonably so.

Caleb is heading to one of the better situations in Chicago. Instead of a one-, two-, or three-win team drafting first overall, he heads to a 7-10 Bears team with a supporting cast fit for immediate success.
The Bears have continued to build on their roster in the pre-draft process. Trading for veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen, signing tight end Gerald Everett, and adding depth at multiple positions on the offensive line.
Adversity or not, Caleb has the talent to step in and see immediate results. We will see if the Bears can help the young man take Chicago to the land of relevancy.
