    BYU Football Top 5 Freshman

The 2022 season has come to an end with this season being a roller coaster.  I am going to do four articles in January one for each class of the BYU football team this season. Starting with the Freshman and the top 5 players from this 2022 Freshman Class

    Kody Epps WR

Kody Epps 5’11 185lbs Wide Receiver. This season he stepped up when Puka Nacua and Gunner Romney went down with injuries. Epps became Jaren Hall’s number 1 receiver to throw at any moment in the game. He played in eight games this year and had 459 reception yards on 39 receptions and six touchdowns. He started in four of those eight games and averaged 57 yards per game. Epps also became the first Cougar Freshman to record 100 yards in consecutive games against Notre Dame and Arkansas. Name to many All-American lists and mid-season Freshman teams by College Football News. This is despite missing five games with an injury. Epps will continue to play a big role on the Cougar offense next season no matter who is behind center.

    Micah Harper DB

Micah Harper 5’10 185lbs Defensive Back. Playing as a number two defensive back and coming into the game when BYU was struggling on defense. Harper eventually was seen all over the field on defense and made some big stops when the BYU defense needed them to get off the field. Harper played in all 13 games had 62 tackles, two forced fumbles and three pass break ups. He finished as the top 3 tackler for BYU Football this season. Had a career high of tackles with 10 against Utah State. Harper is going to be a leader on defense next year with Payton Wilgar and Keenan Pili leaving the BYU Football team.

    Miles Davis RB

Miles Davis 6’2 210lbs running back. He stepped up for BYU when the more experienced running backs struggled to gain yards and put points on the board. Playing in eight games this season he rushed for 225 yards on 40 attempts and was able to help the Cougars to some big wins and some big first downs when BYU needed it. Had a career game against Wyoming with a 70 yard run he joined Puka Nacua (USF game) in being the second one to do that this season. Davis will most likely be RB 1 this fall when the Cougars take the field against Sam Houston State.

    Kingsley Suamataia OL

Kingsley Suamataia 6’6 325lbs Offensive Lineman. A big guy up front for the Cougars and played in 12 games this year and started in all 12 of them. Named to many first and second team lists. He transferred from Oregon before the start of the 2022 season. Suamataia will continue to be a starter on the line as BYU has lost some big guys up front to protect the quarterback.

    Chase Roberts WR

Chase Roberts 6’4 200lbs Wide Receiver. He also stepped up big for the passing game when Nacua and Romney were out with injuries. Roberts played in 11 games this season and had 357 receiving yards and 22 receptions for 3 touchdowns. Was also one that Hall could trust to catch the ball in big moments of the season especially against Baylor. Became the sixth wide receiver in Cougar history to record a 100 yard reception game and one touchdown being the first since Cody Hoffman (2010). Roberts will also be one of the top receivers next season with the departures of Puka Nacua and Gunner Romney.
