BYU Bowl Game History 2011-2022
BYU’s bowl game history as an independent has been great and also brought many fun games. Also, matchups that BYU doesn’t play year in and year out. The Cougars are ready to take the field one last time as an independent team.

2011
Bowl Game: Armed Forces Bowl
Opponent: Tulsa
Final Score: 24-21 Cougars Victory
The Cougars started off the Independence Era strong and beat Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl. Riley Nelson, Cody Hoffman and JJ Di Luigi led the Cougars on offense to give the Cougars the Victory and finish that season 10-3.

2012
Bowl Game: San Diego Poinsettia Bowl
Opponent: San Diego State
Final Score: 23-6 Cougars take the Victory
BYU struggled offensively in this game so leave it to the defense to put points on the board. Kyle Van Noy put up two touchdowns for the Cougars. Van Noy caused and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter early. He then with six minutes left in regulation picked off the quarterback and ran it back for six more points. The Cougars finished 2012 at 8-5

2013
Bowl Game: Fight Hunger Bowl
Opponent: Washington
Final Score: 26-31 Huskies take the Win
The Washington Offense was too much for the Cougars to handle in the second quarter. Taysom Hill, Cody Hoffman and Jamaal Williams led the Cougars on offense but their attempts to win the game came up short. BYU took their first lose in the post season of independency.

2014
Bowl Game: Miami Beach Bowl
Opponent: Memphis
Final Score: 48-55 Tiger take the Victory
Cap another bowl game lose for the Cougars with a brawl. This game was heated from the get go so when it ended a brawl broke out during post game events. Christian Stewart, Algie Brown, and Mitchell Juergens led on offense while Zac Stout, Alani Fua, and Manoa Pikula all had interceptions for the Cougars.

2015
Bowl Game: Las Vegas Bowl
Opponent: Utah
Final Score: 28-35 Utah takes another win in the Holy War
To close out the Bronco Mendenhall era it was only fitting to play Utah and lose as the Cougars struggled to beat Utah for so many years. Tanner Mangum, Francis Bernard, and Devon Blackmon and their fourth quarter run came up short to beat the Utes. The Cougar defense stopped them in the last three quarters but allowed 35 points in the first quarter.

2016
Bowl Game: Poinsettia Bowl
Opponent: Wyoming
Final Score: 24-21 Cougars take the win
BYU goes down to play what would be the final Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, California. Tanner Mangum, Jamaal Williams, and Nick Kurtz led the Cougars to their third win of the post season during independency.

2018
Bowl Game: Idaho Potato Bowl
Opponent: Western Michigan
Final Score: 49-18 BYU takes the win
BYU and a perfect quarterback game led the Cougars to a win after a year off due to only getting four wins. Bouncing back from that thought the Cougars went 7-6 and beat the Broncos. Zach Wilson, Riley Burt, and Dylan Collie helped the Cougars to a great win on the Smurf Turf.

2019
Bowl Game: Hawaii Bowl
Opponent: Hawaii
Final Score: 34-38 Hawaii wins it
BYU gets beat by not just Hawaii but the refs. The Cougars got 10 points not counted as a field goal was good in the third quarter. Then Zach Wilson helicoptered into the end zone but the ball came out after he crossed the goal line so no touchdown. Zach Wilson, Tyler Allgeier, and Matt Bushman tried to lead the Cougars to another post season win.

2020
Bowl Game: Boca Raton Bowl
Opponent: UCF
Final Score: 49-23 Cougars take the Victory
BYU comes into Florida and just lights it up from the beginning of the game. Zach Wilson, Tyler Allgeier, and Isaac Rex lead the Cougars to a big win and finish the season 11-1.

2021
Bowl Game: Independence Bowl
Opponent: UAB
Final Score: 28-31 UAB wins it
BYU with a backup quarterback wasn’t enough to beat the Blazers. Baylor Romney, Tyler Allgeier and Gunner Romney leading the Cougar Offense. With Max Tooley, Ben Bywater, and Tyler Batty leading the Defense wasn’t enough to keep the Blazers out of the endzone.

2022
Bowl Game: New Mexico Bowl
Opponent: SMU
Final Score: 24-23 Cougars win it
BYU with a backup quarterback in his first career start didn’t slow the Cougars down or lose them the game. Sol-Jay Maiava Peters, Chris Brooks, and Ben Bywater led the Cougars to their eighth win of the season. The Cougar defense made a late last second stop to win the bowl game.
