The Buffalo Bills are planning to release two-time Pro Bowl and All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
White has spent every one of his seven years in the NFL as a member of the Buffalo Bills. The Former LSU Tiger is 29-years-old and hasn’t played more than six games in a season since 2021.
The release of White will free up $10.2 million in cap space. White is joined by several other Buffalo Bills players who were released Wednesday.
The Buffalo Bills are trying to get under the salary cap with the release of Tre’Davious White
Just a few days ago the Buffalo Bills were sitting at $41 million over the cap, which was far and away the worst out of any team in the NFL. Through several cuts made today, the Buffalo Bills are working their way back toward being under the salary cap.
They have released wide receiver/return specialist Deonte Harty, center Mitch Morse, running back Nyheim Hines, safety Jordan Poyer and cornerback Siran Neal. they also restructured the contract of cornerback Rasul Douglas.
Despite all these cuts, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has said in the past that he will try to be competitive every year in an article from Democrat and Chronicle.
“We will work around it,” Beane said. “We’re not planning to take a year off and just not be competitive. Will we be younger in some areas? Yes. Will we have to rely on draft picks? Yes. But I’m not laying my head down tonight going ‘We don’t have a shot at it next year.’”
With the departure of White, the Bills’ secondary is now made up of Taron Johnson, Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin, Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford.
Former Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White was considered a top corner in the league
Tre’Davious White started all 16 of his games during his rookie season with the Buffalo Bills. He finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Marshon Lattimore of the New Orleans Saints.
White finished with a career-high 69 tackles that year with four interceptions on top of that. That would be the second-most interceptions White would get in a season throughout his career.
White continued his success at the cornerback position as he finished fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2019. He was a first-team All-Pro that year with six interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Tre’Davious White continued to be a lockdown cornerback for the Bills in 2020 as he was named to the All-Pro team once again, this time it was the second team. It was the second straight year White made it to the Pro Bowl as well.
White hasn’t played up to that standard in the last three years, but he still contributed a great deal when he was on the field. He has played a combined 10 games over the last two years and he hasn’t played in a full season since 2018.

If White can stay on the field, he can be a game-changing cornerback for another NFL team.
