Buffalo Bills news: This point in the offseason is when players — especially those who haven’t exactly established themselves as a key part of the roster — try and do everything they can to make their presence felt. It’s an audition of sorts for studs who are looking to make a name for themselves in the upcoming season.
This has been the case for Bills cornerback Kaiir Elam.
Buffalo Bills News: Kaiir Elam Looking Good at Camp
According to NFL analyst Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, Elam has been one of, if not the biggest surprise in Buffalo’s spring minicamp. The former No. 23 overall pick hasn’t been able to live up to the lofty expectations the team has on him thus far, but right now, Elam is looking to flip the script:
“Elam looked like he took a step forward and stood out throughout the offseason, including with multiple interceptions. The 2022 first-round pick has been a backup for the majority of his first two years with injuries playing a part. He now has a new position coach in Jahmile Addae and got plenty of time on the field during the offseason with cornerback Rasul Douglas not at the team’s voluntary sessions and corner Christian Benford excused from mandatory minicamp for a family issue. Elam has a big camp ahead to continue to show what he can do with Douglas and Benford the favorites to start,” Getzenberg wrote.
As the above report indicates, Elam has taken full advantage of the absences of the more established CBs on the squad. He likely won’t be able to surpass Douglas and Benford for a starting spot this coming season, but he might just have a shot at doing so if he continues to impress in training camp.
This is potentially a good problem to have for new Buffalo cornerbacks coach Jahmile Addae.
