Laiatu Latu started his collegiate career with the Washington Huskies.
Latu committed to the Huskies as a four-star recruit for the 2019 season.
Latu played 12 games in 2019, with 15 tackles, 1.5 for a loss, 0.5 sacks, and one pass deflection.
Latu suffered a neck injury during fall practices in 2020. Team doctors recommended that Latu should retire because it would be too dangerous for him to play football. He retired at the start of spring practices in 2021.
Latu unretired and entered the transfer portal after the conclusion of the 2021 season.
Laiatu Latu transferred to UCLA and had two great seasons.
Latu transferred to the Bruins, and the team physicians cleared him near the end of spring practice. He played in 13 games in 2022, with 36 tackles, 12.5 for a loss, 10.5 sacks, one pass deflection, and three forced fumbles. Pac-12 coaches named him to their First Team Defense and he was named Comeback Player of the Year.
Latu played in 12 games in 2023, with 49 tackles, 21.5 for a loss, 13 sacks, two interceptions, two pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. Latu won the Lombardi Award and the Ted Hendricks Award and was named to the Associated Presses‘ All-American First Team and Pac-12’s First Team.
