It’s no secret Jameis Winston wants to stay with the New Orleans Saints next season and get the starting quarterback job for them. The thing is, the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders seem to be the better fit for the former number one pick.
This offseason, though, there are signs Winston and the Saints are parting years after the former played in New Orleans for four years. Meanwhile, the Saints will have to take on the quarterback’s $10.7 million dead cap if the franchise releases him. While it seems unlikely due to the team being over the cap, there’s still the possibility Winston will walk away.
During the four seasons Winston has played in New Orleans, he has started in 10 games, thrown for 2,367 yards, and made 20 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
The thing is, Derek Carr is already the Saint’s starting quarterback with a good chunk of his $30 million salary next season already eating the cap space. This detail alone makes Winston’s departure a sure thing since he’s after a starting QB job and a bigger bag.

If Winston does walk away, there are a couple of teams that will be a better fit for him. Cody Benjamin shares more in his article for CBS:
“Reports indicate a recent contract restructure will likely have the charismatic backup back on the market after a four-year run with the New Orleans Saints, in which he made just 10 mercurial starts.
Winston has yet to consistently stay healthy or control the ball when pressed into extensive action, but he’s experienced, a beloved locker-room presence and still possesses a splashy arm. Projected AAV: $4M-$5M | Best team fits: Bills, Broncos, Raiders,” Benjamin wrote.
These teams will definitely give Winston a chance to prove himself on the court better than the Saints did. In the event he goes to one of these, it’d be really interesting to see how his career will potentially play out from there.
