The Buffalo Bills understand that it takes a lot to dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs from their lofty throne atop the AFC. The past couple of seasons have proven that while they have the offensive firepower to stand atop the AFC East, they always fall short when it comes to facing elite teams like the Chiefs.
To reverse their fortunes in 2024, Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane have been hard at work in acquiring and retaining the top defensive talent available.
They have already re-signed Jordan Poyer to a two-year deal to keep him until 2026. Their latest foray into free agency sees them retaining another key figure in their defensive line.
Buffalo Bills keep DaQuan Jones for two more years
Buffalo Rumblings’ Matt Byham broke the news that the Bills and DaQuan Jones have agreed to fresh terms that will see the Penn State alum play with the Bills until he’s 34 years old:
The crew over at Cover 1 were first to report the news that had Bills mafia on edge for days, weeks, and perhaps more.
Per the tweet, Jones and Buffalo agreed on a new two-year, $16 million contract. Additional details beyond that were as of yet unavailable.
Jones himself announced the news minutes after Cover 1’s tweet, stating a simple and effective “WE BACK!!!!! #GoBills”
Jones has been a key component of the Buffalo Bills’ defensive line, always lining up against the best o-lines the NFL has to offer whenever he’s available.
While his 2023 season was cut short by injuries, his eight solo tackles and 2.5 sacks in only seven starts was more than enough to give the former Tennessee Titan extra years with the team.
Can the Buffalo Bills win the Super Bowl this time?
While Jones only played a handful of snaps for the Bills, it’s undeniable that he’s part of an efficient engine that can impact opposing offenses. In 2023, the Bills managed to sack the opposing QB 54 times despite only blitzing the QB 23.5% of the time.
The entire Bills defense also effectively stifled opposing defenses. In 17 games, the Bills only allowed 5222 multipurpose yards and 32 total touchdowns. If the Bills manage to address their postseason issues, there’s no reason why they cannot become the overwhelming favorites to win Super Bowl LIX.
