After gutting their talented roster over the past week, the Buffalo Bills finally have good news for their fanbase on Friday. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the league has announced 32 compensatory picks for the upcoming NFL draft, with Buffalo receiving a third-round selection.
The Bills are one of just a handful of teams to receive a compensatory pick for the loss of players during last season’s free-agency period. However, the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers received compensation for the loss of minority coaches and front office members.
Buffalo Bills Receive Compensatory Draft Pick
The NFL handed out three fourth-round draft picks, with the Buffalo Bills receiving one alongside the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens. Buffalo lost many players in free agency last season, resulting in the compensatory pick. Tremaine Edmunds, Case Keenum, and Devin Singletary all signed elsewhere for the previous season.

Edmunds, a two-time Pro Bowler, registered a career-best four interceptions with the Chicago Bears last season. He also had a touchdown, seven passes defended, a forced fumble, and 113 tackles. Meanwhile, Singletary played a significant role in the Houston Texans’ turnaround. He totaled 1,091 scrimmage yards and four scores.
Buffalo Bills: Loaded with Mid-to-Late-Round Draft Picks
After Friday’s news, the Bills will enter the 2024 NFL draft with eight picks between the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds. As the team’s general manager, Brandon Beane will again control the war room in 2024. Beane selected star linebacker Matt Milano in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft, his first with the AFC East club. He again found another high-end talent in 2018 with guard Wyatt Teller, although he has played most of his career with the Cleveland Browns. However, outside kicker Tyler Bass, the team has struggled to find breakthrough talent late in the draft.
After going through massive changes in the past week, the Bills will need a good draft. Buffalo parted ways with many starters, including safety Jordan Poyer, center Mitch Morse, running back Nyheim Hines, and corner Tre’Davious White, to free up the salary cap.
