The Buffalo Bills were looking to add to their defense, and it looks like they have done just that with their most recent signing. Safety Mike Edwards is reportedly in agreement on a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, bringing plenty of experience to their secondary. He was reported to be visiting the team by Joel Erickson of the Indy Star, and that visit seems to have gone well enough for the Bills to announce a signing today.
A new face on defense! 😁

The Road to the Buffalo Bills for Mike Edwards
This past season, Mike Edwards was with the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a brief stint, but he was still able to make a big impact on their run to the Super Bowl. Edwards appeared in all 17 games of the season and got the starting nod in five. He was able to snag one interception, defend five passes, recover two fumbles, one of which he returned for a touchdown, and make 51 total tackles.
The run to the Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs this past season resulted in Mike Edwards’ second Super Bowl win. The first was back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Edwards was a third-round selection by the Buccaneers in the 2019 NFL Draft, where he played from 2019 to 2022. He appeared in 58 games and was given a start 23 times. Over these four seasons, he had seven interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, 21 defended passes, 184 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. While he wasn’t given a starting job, he was consistent in making the play when it mattered the most.
As mentioned before, he had two Super Bowl runs and has played in 11 playoff games, seven of them starts. He’s had three interceptions, 45 tackles, and seven passes defended.
Over the full course of his career, the safety has 157 solo tackles, nine tackles for a loss, four quarterback hits, eight interceptions, a forced fumble, and five fumble recoveries.
The Buffalo Bills were looking for help at safety as Jordan Poyer signed with another AFC East team, the Miami Dolphins, and Micah Hyde is still a free agent. This move gives them an option in the backfield, with a skill set and winning mentality that the Buffalo Bills could use on defense. He’ll be there when it counts the most, and that’s hard to teach.
The 27-year-old is a versatile safety who can do a bit of everything, which can really help shore up the Bills defense.
