Brock Purdy might be getting a sweeter deal than he is worth, according to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio. In a recent episode of his show, Florio went on to remark that the San Francisco 49ers might be indeed making a mistake in terms of Brock Purdy’s contract extension and will end up paying him too much.
Brock Purdy joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 after being selected as the 262nd pick in the seventh round of the NFL draft. Before stepping foot into the NFL, the 25-year-old quarterback played college football for the Iowa State Cyclones from 2018 to 2021.
“Under coach Kyle Shanahan and G.M. John Lynch, it took the 49ers six years to find an answer at the quarterback position. Now that they have one, it feels as if they’re preparing to grossly overpay him,” Mike Florio tweeted through his X account about Brock Purdy’s contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers.
The San Francisco 49ers did not too well as they expected to in the 2024 NFL season, finishing at the bottom of the NFC West with only six wins on the season and 11 defeats. The 49ers played their very last game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals, losing with a final score of 47-24.
While the team may not have performed too well, Brock Purdy certainly gave them plenty of hope. With his contract coming to an end, Purdy will be looking forward to an extension with a much better deal, and the San Francisco 49ers seem to be willing to give it to him. In the 2024 NFL season, the quarterback managed a total of 3,864 passing yards, scoring 20 touchdowns, while managing 12 interceptions for the 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers Ready To Make Sacrifices For Brock Purdy’s Extension
Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers are hell-bent on giving Brock Purdy his deserved contract extension. At the same time, the team knows fully well that they will need to move things and some people around if they plan on giving Purdy all that money.

As per recent statements made by San Francisco 49ers owner, Jed York, the team management is definitely ready to make those sacrifices. York spoke to reporters at the NFL Annual Meetings in Florida, and mentioned that the negotiations between Brock Purdy and the team management are going pretty well.

It looks like Brock Purdy will be playing with the San Francisco 49ers for a good number of seasons to come. After being selected last in the NFL draft, Purdy has managed to turn things around for himself and create a solid name of his own in the league.
