Ryan Day and Ohio State are at the start of fall camp, gearing up for the 2024 season. The Buckeyes have great expectations this year, like every season, but this team feels different. Ohio State has the best roster on paper in college football. If Ryan Day doesn’t figure it out, like beating Michigan, he could be looking for a job at the start of 2025. Still, a new opponent is coming into the Big Ten this year that will probably give Day nightmares, and that would be the Oregon Ducks, who will host the Buckeyes on October 12th, but before the two even meet on the field, the Ducks got a win over them in recruiting.
Oregon is expected to be a Top-Five team when the preseason Top 25 poll comes out this month. If Ohio State fans think the Ducks could be a problem on the field this season, they proved on Saturday night that they are also a problem off it. They went into the state of Ohio and took the number one safety in the 2025 class away from the Buckeyes.

Per Hayes Fawcett from On3.com, “Five-Star Safety Trey McNutt has Committed to Oregon. The 6’0 185 S from Shaker Heights, OH, chose the Ducks over Texas A&M, Ohio State, USC, and Florida.”

There is no reason why Ohio State should let a team from the West Coast come into their state and take one of their best players. Oregon is now a real opponent of the Buckeyes, and instead of facing them once in a while as they have in the past, they might have to face them every year, including Big Ten title games and College Football Playoffs.
Dan Lanning and the Ducks will have to prove they can compete on the field in the Big Ten because the conference is much tougher than the PAC-12. Still, they have done a great job competing in the conference in recruiting, and stealing players from Ohio is a major victory.
