College football will look a lot different when the season opens in three weeks, and most of that has to do with teams moving conferences once again. The Big Ten went west and added four teams USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon.
The Ducks are on the rise, and for most of the 2000s, Oregon was one of the best teams in college football but failed to win a national championship. The Big Ten has brought home two national championship-winning teams since 2014 when Ohio State beat Oregon in the first-ever College Football Playoff, and last year, Michigan won the last four-team College Football Playoff national championship.
Oregon has a losing record in program history against the three best teams in the Big Ten: Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State. They have only beaten the Buckeyes once and have lost nine times.
Even though the Ducks are on the rise with new head coach Dan Lanning, Ohio State fans won’t take them seriously until they start winning Big Ten Championships.
Ohio State and Michigan have the biggest rivalry in college football. Buckeye fans don’t even mention Michigan when referring to them; instead, they refer to them as Team UP North.
That shows how strong the rivalry is, and Oregon fans think Ohio State could be calling them the Team Out West in a few years because they will develop a rivalry on their own.
Oregon Doens’t Have To Worry About Hate From Other Big Ten Schools At The Moment
The BLEAV in Oregon podcast, hosted by Zachary Neel, stated the “Ducks are going to be a force in the Big Ten, and other teams are going to start calling them the Team Out West because they aren’t going to want to say their name soon.”
Scott Anderson stated, “If you’re an Ohio State fan, we want you to hate us. That’s the goal.”
“If you’re an Ohio State fan, we want you to hate us. That’s the goal.”
For over 100 years, the Buckeyes have called Michigan “That Team Up North” to avoid saying the Wolverines’ name.
Well, here come the Oregon Ducks — That Team Out West.

Let’s slow down here! Oregon hasn’t played a single game in the Big Ten, and the first thing Duck fans want is to know what Ohio State and the other Big Ten powerhouse will call them.
Trust me, Buckeye fans aren’t losing sleep over a program that saw head coaches Chip Kelly, Willie Taggart, and Mario Cristobal leave the school to take other head coaching jobs either in the NFL or at other colleges.
Oregon could be a great team this season and for years to come, but until they can beat Ohio State a few times, win the conference, and win a title, Buckeye fans aren’t going to care about them.
