Steelers nation, let’s ride. Adam Schefter is reporting that nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson plans to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. This will be interesting as he is going to be signing a team-friendly contract as his former team, the Denver Broncos, will t the remaining $38 million on his contract in 2024.
This makes the Steelers a very interesting destination as they now have a quarterback room of Kenny Pickett and Russell Wilson. This is expected to be a quarterback competition in the Steel City and Wilson could easily take the job. With the Broncos, he finished 297-of-447 (66.4 completion percentage) for 3,070 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a solid roster and one of the best and underrated coaches of this generation in Mike Tomlin. With a solid offensive line and weapons offensively like wide receiver George Pickens, wide receiver Diontae Johnson and tight end Pat Freiermuth as well as running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, this team has the potential to be scary.
This move is also going to force Kenny Pickett to step up his game if he wants to remain the starting quarterback. Either way, this will be an intriguing quarterback room and is a step in the right direction for the Pittsburgh Steelers to continue being a playoff team in a crowded AFC North.
Will Russell Wilson be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1?
While Russell Wilson has the accolades of a perennial Pro Football Hall of Famer, it will be interesting to see if he would be able to win the starting job over Kenny Pickett. Statistically, there is a gigantic difference as Kenny Pickett has thrown half the amount of touchdown passes in 25 career games (13) than Wilson had last season (26).
With the Cincinnati Bengals expected to be better with Joe Burrow healthy, the Baltimore Ravens to continue their dominance and the Cleveland Browns adding wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, this division is not going to be easy to navigate. Mike Tomlin should be leaning towards Russell Wilson being the starter and Kenny Pickett being the backup quarterback on the official 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers depth chart.
